It doesn’t sound good on paper, but after hearing this song, Board Up The House (from their album of the same name) I was sold.

The video just captures their elaborate live show. To compensate for the fact that their live performance is more or less just three dudes playing with computers, they play with a bunch of visual/light effects sequenced to their music. Pretty neat.

As far as I know, this Isis song from their 2004 ‘Panopticon’ album is the only music video they have ever done.
As far as I know, this Isis song from their 2004 ‘Panopticon’ album is the only music video they have ever done. In Fiction does a good job of exemplifying the Isis sound; it’s basically like someone told these guys “I want you to recorded the heaviest fucking songs of all time . . . and I want to be able to put my kids to sleep with them.” Isis shows us that there can be extremely heavy music that can also be mellow and melodic as well. Interesting concept for a video; haven’t figured out if there is any narrative or just some interesting visuals here.

Battles are sort of a math-rock supergroup with ex-members of Helmet, Don Caballero and Lynx. They don’t sound as rockin’ or as technically as you might expect at first, favoring subtlety and wacky sounds, but their songs build up in a really interesting way. You’ll notice this song, Atlas, get really interesting towards the end. The video is an interesting concept as well, shot on what looks like some kind of floating sound stage, it looks like the band is playing inside of a rotating cube. The album, Mirrored, is full of quirky songs like this, I was listening to it recently while walking through Golden Gate park and it felt appropriate.
